Vacant counters in klia2 can be put to better use to promote local tourism and serve transit passengers.

Travellers at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport would have seen rows of travel and related agencies. Many tourists use these services for their accommodation, transport and travel arrangements.

However, in klia2, which draws an even larger number of passengers and tourists, especially from the Asean region, one finds that the counters, similarly sited as in KLIA, remain vacant.

This is a big loss as a large number of passengers would have a need for such services.

There are many transit passengers who may not have made previous arrangements but want to visit nearby tourist attractions such as Putrajaya.

The needs of these transit passengers are being overlooked.

I am sure that travel firms will quickly snap up these counters if Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd offers to rent them out.

More than the rental collected, it will be a great service for travellers who will appreciate the ease and convenience of making arrangements for their stay in the country.

It must be noted that the klia2 counter operated by the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry does not offer 24-hour service for the convenience of travellers.

The ministry needs to consider these suggestions and input to boost tourism.

I hope Transport Minister Anthony Loke will look into the reasons why these counters have not been leased out.
