SILK Highway, Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway (E18)

The SILK Highway, or Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway, is a Malaysia’s Government Urban Toll Highway project designed to alleviate the daily traffic congestion in the densely populated Kajang area and its vicinity.

The 37km SILK Highway is built to allow motorists to bypass the town centre of Kajang.

The huge traffic jams that clogged traffic flow in Kajang town centre were the main reason behind the construction of the highway. It is also useful as the main ring road of Kajang.

SILK Highway’s Connectivity to other Highways

SILK Highway connects to the following major highways:

• Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway
• Sungai Besi Expressway (BESRAYA)
• Cheras-Kajang Expressway (Grand Saga)
• Kajang-Seremban Highway (LEKAS)
• South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE)

Facilities and Services

The opening of SILK Highway has shown to reduce traveling time for traffic between North and South of Kajang, and it improves the traffic flows between Kuala Lumpur, Cheras, Sg. Long, Balakong, Putrajaya, Semenyih, Bangi, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), klia2 and Seremban.

The entire Highway is attractively landscaped, with proper provision for rest areas that include surau and well-maintained toilet facilities.

Numerous pedestrian bridges are provided for safe pedestrian crossings and noise barriers are built to reduce noise pollution at strategic locations of the highway.

In addition, the SILK Highway is equipped with various state-of-art operational equipment and Intelligent Transport System (ITS) applications.

Comprehensive Traffic Control and Surveillenace System is installed to monitor and manage traffic flow along the highway. The main operating systems consist of:

• Traffic control centre
• Close circuit TV
• Variable message signs
• Computerized traffic signal junctions
• Vehicle detectors
• Telecommunication network

Informative signages and road markings are installed throughout the highway to provide proper directions and guidance for the road users.

To further ensure added comfort and security, SILK Patrol teams (RONDA) are on duty around the clock to patrol the entire SILK Highway, always ready to respond and provide prompt assistance to motorists during emergencies or breakdown.

Toll Plazas

There are total of 4 toll plazas operating 24 hours on a open-toll system. The toll plazas are located as follow:

Touch N’ Go Point of Sales counters are available at Sungai Balak Toll Plaza for the convenience of road users.
