The Merdeka MRT station is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station located near the Stadium Merdeka, currently being refurbished as part of the Merdeka 118 development.

The Merdeka 118 is a 118-story, 644-metre megatall skyscraper currently under construction in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

It is the tallest building under construction as of 2020. When completed, the tower will be tallest building in Malaysia, the tallest building in Southeast Asia and the second-tallest building in the world.

Directly next to Entrance B of the station is Stadium Negara indoor stadium.

The Merdeka MRT station is on the MRT Kajang Line and was opened on 17 July 2017 under Phase Two operations of the line.

As the underground Merdeka MRT station is near the historic Stadium Merdeka where Malaysia’s first Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman declared the independence of the Federation of Malaya from the British Empire on 31 August 1957, the theme “independence” was chosen for the interior design for this station.
