Ipoh Railway Station, Perak, Malaysia
The old Ipoh Railway Station (Stesen Keretapi Ipoh) is one of the main heritage buildings in the state capital of Perak, Malaysia and is served by the new, fast, KTM Electric Train Services (ETS).
This grand old building (opened in 1917) lies on the edge of Ipoh “Old City” (where most of Ipoh’s tourist attractions are located) and houses the railway station, offices and the now closed Majestic Hotel.
Just outside the front of Ipoh train station building is the Ipoh Station Square, comprising of gardens, fountains and the cenotaph (originally built to commemorate those who died from Perak in the First World War).
KTM Trains from Ipoh Station
All passenger train services to/from Ipoh are on the new KTM Electric Train Services (there are no KTM Komuter trains from Ipoh).
Most ETS services run on the KL Sentral Railway Station, Kuala Lumpur to Ipoh route.

Buying Train Tickets from Ipoh Station
The ticket office in Ipoh Railway Station is located just inside the main entrance / waiting area.

If you want to purchase your train tickets from here, you will have to take a ticket number from the machine inside and wait for your number to be called before you can get served (numbers are called out in Malay only).

The waiting area in front of the ticket office is where you will have to wait for your train.
10 to 15 minutes before the train arrives in Ipoh, the departure will be announced and passengers will be let on to the platforms.

Arriving at Ipoh Station
If you are staying in the old part of the city, you can easily walk to your accommodation within 10 minutes or so.
If you are staying in the new part of Ipoh, it is a much longer walk, so you may want to take a taxi (there is a taxi counter in the main hall of the station), or take a local bus.

Perak Transit operate many bus routes around the city and beyond, with some stopping in front of the main hall at the station.
could also take a walk to the Medan Kidd Bus Terminal, which is located
just a few minutes walk away from the station (walk out of the gardens
to the main road and turn right – the bus station is on the corner just a
few hundred metres down the road).
From here you will be able to
find all the Perak Transit city buses and buses to nearby towns (or take
a bus to Ipoh’s main long distance bus station, Amanjaya Bus Terminal).
