GoKL City Bus, free city bus for KLCC, Bukit Bintang and Chinatown area

The GoKL free city bus service was launched by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to help improve public mobility in the areas of KLCC, Bukit Bintang and Chinatown, and slowly expanded in stages to cover wider area of Kuala Lumpur district.

Travellers can hop on and off at numerous official GoKL City Bus stops that are located conveniently near tourist attractions, shopping malls, food and entertainment areas.

The first deployment of the free GoKL city bus service started on 31st August 2012 and it serves two main routes called the Green Line and Purple Line.

On 1st May 2014, the second deployment of the new Red Line and Blue Line were added to expand the coverage of the GoKL bus service.

On 28th Feb 2019, the Federal Territories Ministry today launched a GoKL free bus service new route along the Titiwangsa – MINDEF Hub (fifth route) which has been named the Orange Line.

On 1st April 2019, the Federal Territories Ministry implemented the GoKL Pink Line and Turquoise Line to serve high density areas in the Kuala Lumpur area. These additional lines prioritise People’s Housing Project (PHP) areas, government complexes, higher institutions of learning and areas occupied by the B40 group.

On 28th August 2020, the eighth route, the Maroon Line, for the free GoKL bus service, which links PPR Batu Muda and Sentul LRT station, was launched.

The new route is expected to benefit an estimated 15,000 residents, including those who live in PPR Batu Muda, PA Seri Kelantan, PA Seri Pangkor, PA Seri Perak, PA Seri Negeri Sembilan, PA Fasa 3 and PA Fasa 8/9.

This new Maroon Line passes key landmarks such as UTC Sentul, Klinik Kesihatan Taman Batu Muda, Pasar Sentul, 13 schools and six places of worship.

On 16th February 2021, the GoKL Chocolate Line was launched to connect Section 10 and Sri Rampai LRT station in Wangsa Maju.

On 1st Nov 2021, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) introduced two additional routes, Parrot-Green Line and Grey Line, under its GoKL free bus service.

The new Parrot-Green Line route will connect Maluri LRT station to Bandar Sri Permaisuri while Grey Line buses will travel between Cochrane MRT station and Bandar Tun Razak.

The Parrot-Green line buses will pass through Taman Tasik Permaisuri and stop at Permaisuri Q Complex, as well as SMK Seri Tasik, Cheras LRT station and two mosques.

The Grey line route will include Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre, DBKL Training Institute and Sunway Velocity Mall.

The Purple Line takes travelers from the Bukit Bintang area to Chinatown and back.

You can get on the bus in front of Pavilion KL, and you can get down at the Central Market, or directly in Chinatown.

Travelers that arrive (or depart) by bus at Pudu Sentral can use the Purple Line to travel free of charge to the Bukit Bintang and KLCC area.

GoKL City Bus – FAQs

1. What is GoKL?

GoKL is intended to provide a reliable, affordable, accessible, safe and comfortable “first and last mile” city bus service for private vehicle users, public transport users and tourists in Central Business District (CBD).

GoKL connects users to various places around Kuala Lumpur, such as main office blocks, shopping centres, public transportation hubs, education institutes and tourist attractions.

2. How much will I be charged for riding GoKL?

There will be no charge. GoKL is a free bus service for the time being.

3. How can GoKL benefit the commuters?

GoKL helps users to save money by allowing users to move around KL with no cost. With the availability of park & ride facility, users can reduce the fuel usage of their private vehicles for the day.

GoKL also offers users convenience as the stops are assigned to major shopping malls, business centres and public transport hubs.

In addition, GoKL increases the mobility of KL visitors by reducing the number of private car users in CBD during peak hours. GoKL is eco-friendly since the buses are NGVs, and fewer vehicles in CBD means less carbon footprint.

4. What are the operations hours for all lines?

Operations hours for all lines are:
  • Working Day: 6.00am – 11.00pm
  • Weekends and Holidays: 7.00am – 11.00pm

5. What is the frequency of GoKL bus?

The frequency for all lines is 5 minutes during peak hours and 10 minutes during non-peak hours.
Working Day – Peak Hours (7.00am – 10.00am & 4.00pm – 8.00pm): Every 5 minutes
Others: Every 10 minutes
