The equalisation of passenger service charges (PSCs) at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and other airports in the country will provide a level playing field for all airlines, said the Association of Asia Pacific Airlines (AAPA).

In a statement on Thursday, AAPA director-general, Andrew Herdman, said the move would provide the opportunity for all airlines to offer competitive products and services to the travelling public.

“The imposition of different levels of charges at KLIA and klia2 was always seen as fundamentally unfair and led to significant competitive distortion among airlines competing for business at the same airport,” he said.

Herdman said hence, AAPA welcomed Thursday’s announcement made by the Malaysia Aviation Commission that the PSCs would now be applied on an equal basis at all airports in Malaysia, with effect from Jan 1, 2018. – Bernama
