The Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH) is the first elevated highway in Malaysia. The 7.7 km elevated highway connects Ampang (Selangor) and Kuala Lumpur.

This highway was built to reduce traffic jams at Jalan Ampang and make access to the city more convenient.

The highway was opened to traffic on 17 May 2001 after numerous delays, and the toll collection started on 1 June 2001. The Kilometre Zero of the highway starts at Jalan Sultan Ismail Interchange, Kuala Lumpur.

The AKLEH Expressway spans 7.9km, and starts eastward from Jalan Sultan Ismail to the riverbanks of Sungai Klang and Sungai Ampang and ends at Taman Ampang Utama in Ampang.

The highway was designed to accommodate future expansion of the Jelatek-MRR2 section from the current four-lane carriageway to six-lane carriageways.

The expansion will take place along the northern bank of the Klang River and Ampang River.

On 5 November 2015, the Phase 2 of the AKLEH (Ampang-bound traffic) from Jelatek to Ampang-MRR2 has now opened to traffic.

AKLEH provides 3 lanes carriageway in each direction from Jalan Sultan Ismail interchange to Dato’ Keramat interchange. From Dato’ Keramat interchange to Ampang interchange, there is a 2 lanes carriageway in each direction.

Facilities & Services

To give road users the best of services, AKLEH is well-equipped with state-of-the-art facilities. With only 1 open concept toll plaza, PROLINTAS has implemented various strategies to improve traffic flow and maintenance system.

The motorists can enjoy the convenience when paying tolls with the mix-mode facilities. AKLEH has 19 lanes altogether, with 11 mix mode lanes for cash and Touch ‘n Go users, 4 Touch ‘n Go lanes and 4 SmartTag lanes. For further convenience, Customer Service counters are provided at the highways and also at the lanes. These counters are for the users to refill their Touch ‘n Go card.

For the safety of the road users, 3 nos of Variable Message Signs (VMS), Close Circuit Televisions (CCTV) and Vehicle Detection system (VDS) have also been installed.

As an additional service, AKLEH provides a 24 hours hotline and patrolling teams. The development of AKLEH did not just stop there. The maintenance of the highway is constantly being carried out to provide the motorist the best service we can offer.

This activity involves the inspection in various areas such as the expansion of joints, piers, generator set, Automatic Lane Barrier (ALB), street lighting and as well as the upkeep of the landscape.

These improvements are carried out to fulfill customer’s expectations and needs in line with the ISO 9001:2000 standards. Other feature includes a tunnel straight to Suria KLCC, one of the main attraction and hotspots here in Kuala Lumpur.
